“Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers.” (Humans rights act)
We live in a society where it is shouted at the top of one’s voice that everyone has the right to think and express themselves, but as soon as someone has an opinion outside the chorus they are attacked by the masses and silenced because their opinions ‘infringe on the rights of others’.
Those who know me know that I do not often express myself on controversial political and social issues, either live or on social media, and I do so not because I am uninterested in such issues, indeed, many are close to my heart, but because my opinions are often opposed to those of the masses and I do not feel free to express them without being judged or attacked.
This work wants to invite everyone to reflect on the issue of freedom of expression and to do introspection before attacking someone because they believe in values different from their own.
If we are all free, we must all feel free.
